| Description | CD97antigenisareceptorinvolvedinbothadhesionandsignalingprocessesearlyafterleukocyteactivation.Italsoplaysanessentialroleinleukocytemigration.Theunprocessedprecursoris853aminoacidslongandhasapredictedmolecularweightof91.9KDa.CD97antigenisaheterodimerconsistingofalargeextracellularalphasubunitandaseven-transmembranebetasubunitthatarenon-covalentlylinked.ItcontainsfiveEGF-likedomainsandoneGPSdomain.Thisproteininteractswithcomplementdecay-acceleratingfactor(DAF)throughthefirsttwoEGFdomains,andwithchondroitinsulfate(onlyisoform1)throughthefourthEGFdomain.CD97antigenisbroadlyexpressedanditispresentonmosthematopoieticcells.Itisalsoabundantlyexpressedbysmoothmusclecells.ExpressionofthisproteinisincreasedunderinflammatoryconditionsintheCNSofmultiplesclerosisandinsynovialtissueofpatientsofrheumatoidarthritis.Thisproteinisrapidlyup-regulatedduringlymphocyteactivation.C97antigenbelongstotheG-proteincoupledreceptor2fmailyandtheLN-TM7subfamily. |
